BRIEF LITERARY REVIEW

A novellete of 112 pages, Roots of Pain chronicles the dogged effort of Nnedi at getting education and better status in life. In spite of all obstacles, including betrayal of trust from people she trusted, she finally succeeds in connecting with Olisa who helps her to get education.

They happily marry each other and as a result of Olisa's well-paying job, she leads a bliss life, free from all economic worries. The lack of complexity of theme as well as characterization places this work in the realm of popular culture.
